The Author:
I used to write restaurant reviews in a major American city, but a recent change in profession has brought me to Vancouver. It appears though that it’s true what they say about old habits: they’re hard to shake. As I was exploring Vancouver, I realized something. In the words of Ragnar Tornquist,
Cities fascinate me. I love exploring them, learning the layout of the streets, the hidden places, the secret spaces. I love becoming so familiar with cities that I can improvise when I walk through them. I love the way cities sound and smell, how they breathe, how they look when they are filled with people, and how they change so completely when everyone’s gone.
To take Tornquist’s analysis a step further, restaurants are the heart of the culture of a city. They define neighborhoods and are integral to the comings and goings within the city - trips are planned around where you’re gonna go out to eat. Restaurants, I believe, give a city a certain feel, something that landmarks, buildings and landscapes don’t completely encompass. Simply put, I love restaurants.
The Reviews:
They will always be well thought out and informative to the reader. Unfortunately, I’m not on an expense account so menu coverage will be limited. So will visits. Reviews are be based on no less than two visits, while Quick Bites are usually based on just one.
Information on how restaurants are measured can be found on the rating system page.
