Beyond Restaurant + Lounge Opening Gala

Beyond Restaurant and Lounge in the Century-Plaza Hotel officially celebrated its opening this past Tuesday in great style. The media, as well as many other prominent Vancouverites were invited to this gala event marking the restaurant’s opening, which officially occurred over a month ago. It was indeed a lavish and largely enjoyable evening, perhaps the perfect move for a restaurant that was recently praised by the Globe and Mail for its edibles, but not for its tourist-heavy clientele. I have to believe that, at least in the short-run, the event has branded Beyond as a hot-spot in the minds of many Vancouverites.

It claims to create meals under the very broad description of “Southeast Asian.” It is located in Kitsilano, home of all of the yoga accessories and puppy paraphernalia one’s heart could desire. It started in Victoria, BC. It experienced more false starts and delays of game than the Arizona Cardinals this week. It is a space more evocative of uptown chic than noodle joint. I was skeptical.

Kurtis Kolt joins Salt, non-profit literary centre to come

In quite the coup, Rob Feenie has accquired the services sommelier Sebastien Le Goff, formerly of Cin Cin and Vancouver’s sommelier of the year as named by the BCRFA. He will manage the wine program as well as direct both Lumiere and Feenie’s.
