Half stars. Yup, we’re doing them now. The old system was a bit too clunky, and everything always seemed to be either two or three stars. The new system should get at the finer differences in dining quality between restaurants.

I think it’s commonly asserted that if you want the freshest Chinese noodles in Vancouver you should visit Sha Lin on West Broadway. There’s a very good reason for that – they are literally made from scratch, right in front of your eyes: the kitchen is walled with glass windows so you can watch the staff at work! Whether you’re in the mood for pulling noodles, pushing noodles, cutting noodles, or dragging noodles you can find dozens, if not hundreds of combinations of noodles, meats, vegetables, and tofu on the menu, along with innumerable sauces, soups, and broths.

I went for dinner with Jocelyn a while back on, I believe, a Monday night. We were in the mood for Indian food, and India Gate was the closest, located just east of Granville on Robson and convenient to central downtown. Showing uncharacteristic foresight, I actually looked at the menu before going in. The prices seemed a little steep considering how the place looked from the outside, but I was starving, and let’s face it, Jocelyn knew she wouldn’t be paying, so we decided to go for it.
